Wiggles
A couple of complementary wiggles among world leaders this week. One perfectly sane leader is showing signs of craziness on one subject, and one perfectly crazy leader is showing signs of sanity on one subject.
The former: Up till now, Erdogan of Turkey has been perfectly admirable. He's been running a real-value culture, a real-value economy, and an exemplary Zero Problems foreign policy. This week he seems to be blowing the second item. His own central bank (equiv Fed Reserve) has been letting interest rates move freely, which is the REAL VALUE way of doing things. Now Erdogan is trying to push rates toward zero (the Goldman way), shouting that anyone who wants to let rates remain natural is a traitor.
The latter: Up till now, Obama and Kerry have been perfectly insane in all aspects of foreign and domestic policy, following Bush lunacy verbatim and even expanding it in some places. This week Obama and Kerry are showing remarkable sanity on the question of Israel vs Persia. They are pulling away from the bizarre wacked-out shared lie that Israel (which has lots of nukes and a long criminal record of aggression) is the innocent victim while Persia (which has no nukes and no intention of acquiring nukes and no aggression since 700 AD) is the aggressor. Obama has been firmly resisting Netanyahu's bullying; nothing subtle or ambiguous at all. Kerry has continued negotiating with Persia, brushing Bibi away like a virulent mosquito.
Do these wiggles herald a landslide? Probably not, but the former is definitely a bad sign for Turkey and the latter is definitely a good sign for USA.
