Tech tip on Vivitar driver
When I transferred my programs and data to a new computer last month after the old one was damaged by a
power surge, only ONE useful thing got lost. I missed the drivers for my crappy Vivicam 7020 camera.
Tried looking for drivers under the type number and ran into nothing but virus-bearing junk. Made AVG work for its living, but didn't end up with a camera driver.
Turns out you don't need to look for the type number. Vivitar has JUST ONE DRIVER that serves all of its cameras!
It's
here. Note that this link goes directly to the downloadable EXE to install the driver.
Downloaded it, ran the installer, and now I can use my crappy camera again. The installer doesn't include any fancy editing software; it just provides a Twain driver that you can select in any regular paint or view program like Irfanview or Paintshop. Plug the camera into a USB port, select the Twain driver, run Irfanview's Acquire action, and you'll see thumbnails of the pics available in the camera. You can then save or delete.
The all-in-one nature of this driver isn't explicitly stated anywhere online that I can see, so I decided to state it here and now. Maybe this will save someone from pursuing those fruitless and virus-bearing fake drivers!
