Wot, no JET STREAM?
Hmm. Wonder where the jet stream is this morning?
When meteorologists talk about "atmospheric rivers", they ain't kidding!
Later: As of noon the river has just about finished flowing through us. 16 hours of steady light to moderate rain, totalling one inch. Not record-breaking but definitely a once-a-year type rain event. Brings the annual total a little above average after a distinctly dry July. Always reverting to the mean!
And 24 hours after the first picture: The system hasn't moved. It has gradually weakened down to drizzle in this part of Spokane, but has never stopped entirely. Amazing persistence.
Noted on this morning's walk: (1) About 1 of 10 houses are still mindlessly running their automatic lawn sprinklers, creating broad mosquito-breeding lakes that will tempt the EPA Terrorist Army to declare the whole area an Untouchable Endangered Fragile Wetland. (2) Most windows are closed, but the awning type windows on '60s houses are open. I don't understand why
all houses aren't built with crank-powered awning windows. You can operate them without needing to open curtains or blinds; they're secure when closed and rainproof when open.
Serious rain brings out bad judgment and good design!
