Conundrum
Bit of a tempest in a tea-cozy in England....
Some arrogant commie bitch, which has spent its career smashing normal civilization, is now receiving criticism in return. The arrogant bitch is NOT AMUSED that mere humans are daring to criticize it. Executives at Twitter are all a- ... well, you know. They are clawing all over each other to apologize to Arrogant Commie Bitch, and to institute Total Censorship over anyone who dares to criticize the Elites.
Of course. Just like what happened in Arab countries last year, when Twitter was used by dissatisfied ordinary people to criticize the Elites. Twitter took immediate steps to halt all criticism of Mubarak** and the various Sheiks and Crown Princes.
What? They didn't? They
encouraged criticism of the Elites in those countries?
Hmm. This is a conundrum. Free speech is The Heart Of Democracy and An Absolute Human Right when it serves the interests of The Party, but it is
The Enemy Of Democracy and Lawless, Anarchic Promulgation Of Hatred when it works against Party Members.
Sounds familiar. Can't quite place it, though.

** Footnote: I was simplifying to make a point. What the US/UK elites really want is
not Mubarak or Morsi or any one leader. What they want is total disorder and chaos in all Arab/Muslim countries EXCEPT Saudi. The evidence is clearest in Egypt. US/UK governments and media worked to develop and encourage a revolt against Mubarak, in the name of Democracy. As soon as Morsi settled in and started doing actual Democracy, holding elections and referenda and respecting the results of elections and referenda, the US/UK elites worked to develop and encourage a revolt against Morsi. Experimentally obvious. Neither leader is the desired endpoint. The goal is constant chaos and civil war.
But
why do they want chaos? That's not clear. I'm inclined to think it helps Goldman make money from options and futures and puts and calls and indexes and third-order derivatives, but there may be political reasons along with the economic. Note that Israel, which seemingly should feel threatened by chaos in its nearest neighbors, has not acted to end the chaos. Instead, it seems to be going along with the efforts to keep things boiling. Perhaps Israel feels more threatened by stable governments that can focus on external military goals, and less threatened when the Syrian and Egyptian armies are totally preoccupied with internal matters.
