Following up on
this.Nice BBC feature this morning, focused mainly on Istanbul as the East/West cultural bridge. Good overall history of Turkey, including some surprising facts. Under the rulers who followed the secular tradition of Kemal Atatürk, Christians had a harder life than they do under the more recent semi-Islamist rulers. Why? Not because of religion as such. Because the Christians in Turkey are mainly Greeks, and the Atatürk line was anti-Greek.
