Hunger for learning
Berenson is
trying to have empathy toward politicians.
The media still LOVES Policy X. And thus the public does too. Your poll numbers have never been higher. So what do you do? How do you get away from Policy X without admitting your mistake? Or do you at all? After all, you're not a saint. You're a politician.
This probably applies to low-level politicians like mayors, who weren't in the Deepstate loop. In a few places mayors are actually elected with actual opponents, and need to think about actual votes.
This emphatically DOESN'T apply to presidents and governors of big states or provinces. They are inside Epstein's circle and don't need to think about opponents or elections. They can count on continuing in power as long as they don't reveal any secrets. Blackmail is the ONLY source of power at the upper levels, and truth is the only source of failure.
Those low-level politicians SHOULD be considering that most people, on all sides of all issues, are HUNGRY for some sign of SANITY by politicians. A mayor who admits that he was wrong, tells us how he was blackmailed or fooled, and shows the ability to LEARN FROM EXPERIENCE AND CHANGE HIS BEHAVIOR, could end-run the media and win strongly. A few sheriffs have already done this.
Frankly, it's too late now for foxhole conversions. Too much damage has been done.
