New research from the University of Washington finds that a natural aptitude for learning languages is a stronger predictor of learning to program than basic math knowledge, or numeracy. That's because writing code also involves learning a second language, an ability to learn that language's vocabulary and grammar, and how they work together to communicate ideas and intentions. Other cognitive functions tied to both areas, such as problem solving and the use of working memory, also play key roles.Yup. And it's not just the skill of using the computer, it's the computer's own internal activities. COMPUTERS ARE NOT CALCULATORS. COMPUTERS ARE SORTERS. True from the start and still true. Computers do a considerable amount of math, but the math is a side gig. Sorting and logic are the day jobs. The weaponized autists who rule the tech world are pure numberoids, so they think of computing as pure numbers. Every now and then I try to argue this point in a forum full of weaponized autists, and I always get knocked down by a torrent of formulas and numbers, accurate to the 903432432.657.34543.87658.547th decimal.decimal.decimal place.place.place. Fuck it and fuck them. Maybe this study by OFFICIAL ACADEMICS WITH OFFICIAL DEGREES will help to change the atmosphere, but I doubt it.
