Candor makes all the difference
Police in Bloomberg-owned cities are moving toward a no-pursuit policy. Spokane made the move last month, announced with the usual bureaucratic buzzwords.
Atlanta's police chief Erika Shields announced the move this week, with UNIQUE HONESTY AND CANDOR.
“Namely, the level of pursuit training received by officers who are engaging in the pursuits, the rate of occurrence of injury/death as a result of the pursuits and the likelihood of the judicial system according any level of accountability to the defendants as a result of the pursuit. At this point in time, the department is assuming an enormous risk to the safety of officers and the public for each pursuit, knowing that the judicial system is largely unresponsive to the actions of the defendants.”When the decision happened here, with no explanation, I just assumed it was part of Bloomberg's plan. This explanation by Shields makes it clear that the police are striking. Shields is protecting the skills and lives and morale of her officers against the malfeasance and nonfeasance and Bloombergian evil of the "prosecutor" who won't prosecute actual criminals. Good. Bravo. I've been hoping this would happen.
