Meta-delousing a yak
Not quite a full yakshave, so I'll call it delousing a yak.
Previous item about NYC was amplified if not inspired by my current bit of work.
The NYC publisher who had handled my courseware was LBOd by JPMorgan and stopped carrying the entire speech and hearing subject area. So the text author went back to the small family-owned publisher who had started this series back in 1996. The small outfit is vastly easier to deal with. No corporate imperatives, no editing based on interdepartmental rivalries or Share Value. They simply want the best possible product.
A proper Natural Law purpose. More life, more value, more beauty. I've been working harder and happier in harmony with this purpose.
But the NYC publisher, typically Insatiable, isn't satisfied. Even though the contract clearly turned over all rights to the new publisher, they aren't bound by contracts. NYC is never bound by laws and contracts. They "may" want to reserve rights to some illustrations made by their in-house artists in 2012.
These "may reserve" images are fortunately a small fraction of the total, about 70 out of 1200. But I still have to find replacements. Some of them replaced earlier images done by the original (and now current) publisher. Some were new topics. I found the earlier images and moved them back into the courseware, with adjusted labels and pointers, and now I'm making new 3D images and animations for the non-equivalent new topics. My 3D is significantly clearer than the 2012 sketches, and probably should have been done ANYWAY.
Yesterday I made a pretty decent animation for the process of concussion (coup and contrecoup) replacing an unclear image in the "may reserve" set. When I started to move it into the courseware setup, I realized that the facing text page says nothing about concussions! This somehow made it through several years of proofreading. In fact there's nothing at all about concussions in the underlying hardcopy text. This must have been a 'sidebar' idea that was rejected at some point.
Now that I've added value and clarity, I'm not going to waste the work. Concussion is an important and relevant topic. I'll write an accompanying page and insert it.
AND THEN: When I started writing this blog post, I wanted to modify the yak-shaving image to show Polistra picking a bug with tweezers. BUT: it turns out that I had somehow deleted the month in my archives that contains the Poser files for the yak pic. So I just reused the shaving pic.
Just as before, the shave generates a metashave.
