Recursive proof
Both "sides" constantly mock juries for stupidity and lack of rationality. Both "sides" are flat wrong, and it's clear that both "sides" would like to get rid of juries for slightly different reasons.
I know from long observation and direct experience that juries are the ONLY remaining link between governments and natural sanity.
The best cure for insanity (after removing DC and NYC from the planet, of course) is to extend jury-style action to ALL governmental functions.
Here's a case that provides a nearly mathematical proof of jury rationality:
A jury has ruled that county officials were not negligent in the death of an elderly man who had reported for jury duty and was later found covered in snow and dead of exposure outside a Washington state courthouse. The family of 84-year-old Kay Mita had sued Spokane County. Mita reported for jury duty in the city of Spokane on Nov. 26, 2007 but did not return to the courtroom after a lunch break. He was found dead the next day, slumped against a trash container next to the base of the courthouse steps. While the jury on Thursday found that Spokane County was not negligent it asked officials to update policies on how a person should be determined "at-risk."If you assume that juries act on feeeeeeeliiiiiings, you would bet that a jury would defend jurors as a group by assessing large damages. Nope. The jury was able to get OUTSIDE the recursive loop and deal with specific facts.
