Who's the real populist?
Trump finally imposes a tariff!
Oops, it's not Trump. It's an existing administrative agency, the ITC, and Trump had nothing to do with the tariff.
Whirlpool does some of its manufacturing overseas, but it also has a real AMERICAN factory in Clyde, Ohio, employing 3000 real Americans to make washing machines. Whirlpool filed a complaint to the ITC against Samsung and LG. Those Korean companies had been moving their factories around various cheap Asian countries to elude treaties and sanctions.
The ITC found that Samsung and LG need to be penalized with a tariff. Trump's administration has until Dec 4 to file objections.
Who is on the populist side here? Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman, both from Ohio, doing what legislators are SUPPOSED to do. Lobbying ITC to defend Whirlpool.
Who is on the globalist side? Repooflicans as usual.
Whirlpool accounts for about 35 percent of all residential washers sold in the United States. It would take a combination of Samsung and LG for those companies to match that share. The Heritage Foundation, a free-market think tank, says that "Whirlpool claims that this case is about losses for the domestic industry as a whole, but in reality, it is about Whirlpool feeling the pressures of innovation and competition from Samsung and LG."Nasty-ass monsters. Treasonous traitors. According to the ITC website, this decision was unanimous. There are four commissioners, three appointed by Obama and one by Bush The Son. So this could be called an Obama decision. Trump has a chance to do the right thing lazily by letting the decision stand. Will he? I'll bet $100 he goes with the traitors.
