Not impressed by Gab
I've been halfway watching Gab, an attempt to set up a non-Deepstate alternate to Twitter.
They seem sincere, especially because they're serious about
SHOWING THEIR WORK. No clear signs of false-flaggery.
But they're not going to get anywhere. A few days ago they went dark momentarily, then Showed Their Work: Turned out they had first failed to pay their annual domain rent, then got switched off by the domain registrar. Also turned out that they didn't have their own servers but paid one of the big Cloud outfits for server space.
If you want to be independent you have to be independent. Don't depend on ANY of the Deepstate-owned systems that can take you down.
Absolute independence requires complete separation from the Web (eg shortwave or mechanical printing), but a Web-based communication service can't go that far by definition.
Trouble is, Gab isn't even aiming for the
limited independence of internal servers.
