Why does he believe in "law"?
Assange continually
cites chapter and verse of "international law" in his attempt to sway his persecutors. It obviously doesn't work, but he keeps doing it.
This is a two-way problem, a good news/bad news deal.
Good news or good side: Assange's absolute devotion to pure principle is what makes Wikileaks tremendously valuable. People gradually learn that WL does NOT take sides, it only tries to gather and publish VALID information. Some of that info will displease each side, some will please each side. WL doesn't give a fuck about pleasing or displeasing.
(Gradually = it took me two years to figure it out!)
Bad news or bad side: "International law" never existed. Even ordinary "Law" no longer exists. Only bullets, blackmail and bucks exist. "International law" was invented specifically as a tool for war winners to punish countries they want to punish. Sometimes the latter category happens to include the countries that lost the war, but
that's only a random coincidence. Desire to punish is the criterion. Assange doesn't seem to understand this.
He needlessly offended Ecuador, his guardian, with
personal comments on Twitter, violating an earlier pledge. (Isn't that a "law"?) Fortunately the new leader of Ecuador sees prestige value in keeping Assange, but the pressure from USA STRONG is unrelenting. You shouldn't give Ecuador an
extra reason to stop fighting.
