Why do I find this funny?
I always enjoy both
Engrish and
Autocorrect. Before the web, I enjoyed gathering misprints from newspapers and books. All the same thing: accidental truth or accidental commentary on reality. Accidentality is crucial. A
deliberate attempt to create a Spoonerism or blooper fails utterly.
But why do I find
this particular item of Engrish so outrageously funny? It's perfectly good grammar and almost perfect spelling. Clearly the sentence comes from an old ESL text, and it's nice and polite. It's not obscene or vulgar, either literally or via double entendre.
Must be something like the Uncanny Valley effect.
So damn close to appropriate but still incurably misplaced???
