Wrong for 90 years, finally right
Prophecy made by Wireless World in 1927, edited for obtrusive verbosity:
The first wars of history were fought as a result of incursions into neighboring territories; later wars more often started because one nation trespassed on the trade interests of another. Today we have another possible source of friction via an invasion of the ether by a foreign nation, interfering with the broadcasting service of neighbors.
Powerful and wise premonition, considering that radio in 1927 was just beginning to separate stations by tunable frequency.
The prediction was completely wrong for shortwave broadcasting. World War 2 and Cold War 1 involved PLENTY of jamming and counterjamming, but the jamming never caused a serious problem. Shortwave is flexible and
naturally 'chancy' because of ionospheric skip. A major shortwave station had transmitters on a dozen frequencies. The broadcaster and the listeners could always find a frequency that would break through the current skip conditions despite the jamming.
Now the prediction is finally valid and we're seeing it daily via botnet DDOS. Home webcams and thermostats are NOT TUNABLE. Each one depends on a single channel to send and receive commands and software updates, each device AUTOMATICALLY seeks software updates, and the frequencies are always in line-of-sight UHF range. These devices are engineered and built in China, a permanently hostile nation.
These bots have all the rigidity of a direct copper wire, plus the jamming and hacking potential of radio waves. Perfect recipe for ATTACKS WITH NO POSSIBLE EVASION OR DEFENSE.
