Odd convection
Brilliant and powerful
column by Noonan today. Great crises often bring about a 'genius cluster', a set of great leaders on ALL sides. Where are they? Not visible. Certainly not anywhere near politics.
Who could be such a leader? The first name that popped into my mind is Forrest Mims. The second is Dmitri Orlov.
Orlov makes sense. He acts like a leader and has been trying to establish a movement. If nominated by Fate, he would serve. But why Mims? He accidentally created a movement of hands-on thinkers without even trying. He doesn't seem to be acting like a leader. Why did his name pop to the surface instantly? Dunno, but there it is.
No, wait. One great leader is already IN politics. Putin.
Could Trump become his 'friendly adversary', echoing Stalin and FDR? Doesn't feel like it; much as I admire Trump's ability to cut through shit and speak plain truth, I don't see FDR in him. Yet. I could be wrong.
