I thought the baseline had been reset.....
Politicians focus on My Opponent's Failed Ideology and My Opponent's Failed Policies and My Opponent's Risky Schemes, because discussing actual human qualities is absolutely illegal. Actual humans, when given the chance to "vote", always pay more attention to actual human qualities. ("Voting" is merely decorative, of course, but it does provide an interesting window into behavior.)

One of the more obvious qualities is age. For a long time Repoofs had been running SERIOUSLY OLD candidates like Reagan and Dole and McCain against comparatively young Dems.

I thought that Bush The Son and Obama had pulled the age baseline down; I thought both "sides" would be sticking with 50-year-old types this time.

I was dead wrong. At this point only Cruz is in the 50 range. Trump and Theformersecretaryofstate are 69 and try not to look like it; Sanders is 75 and looks it.

The reasoning behind my assumption was partly right. At 66 I know what happens when you get older. I know that a younger leader is more likely to be flexible, more likely to handle complexity. And it appears that other old voters have the same understanding. Sanders is especially beloved by 20-30 types who haven't yet experienced aging directly.

BUT: Maybe those younger voters are onto something without knowing it. Previous Repoof oldies like Dole and McCain weren't trying to accomplish anything. They were simply addicted to high status and power, and didn't want to quit. A wrinkly leader who has a mission is going to be IN A GODDAMN HURRY TO GET SOME FUCKING THING DONE. He knows there isn't much time, and he doesn't give a fuck about My Future Career or My Future Viability. Ain't no future, ain't no viability.

And that's exactly what we need at this point in history. I doubt that this mess can be solved short of 500 Megatons on DC and 5000 MT on NYC. Remove the east coast from the earth, let the Atlantic wash up to the Appalachians.



But if a non-nuclear solution is possible, you need to DO IT ALL ON THE FIRST DAY IN OFFICE. Both Trump and Sanders understand this. Theformersecretaryofstate and Cruz are just addicted to Goldman money.

Haste is needed. Wrinklies are in a hurry for obvious reasons; youngsters are in a hurry because they have lots of energy. Nice coincidence, or maybe Nature at work without telling us about it.
