EPA kills again
New skyscrapers are turning into Towering Infernos regularly. Overall a net gain, since the occupants of skyscrapers are rich fuckheads who deserve to die. But there's a real danger of killing innocent non-fuckheads who happen to walk past the skyscraper, or innocent maintenance and cleaning workers inside the skyscraper.
Apparent reason: New skyscrapers are using polyurethane for insulation and exterior cladding. Might as well use gasoline.
Hmm. Skyscrapers, depending on how you define the term, have been around since 1906, and the big ones since 1925 or so. How come we didn't have Towering Infernos in the Empire State or Chrysler Buildings? Presumably there have been frequent office fires, especially before 1990 when everyone smoked all the time. But those office fires stayed in one office. They didn't roar up and down the whole building as fires are doing now.
Hmm. What's the difference?
Can't figure it out.
