EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS. It's been true and known for 50 years. The PURPOSE of tenure is to squash originality and generate lots of pointless tautological studies. Feature, not bug.
However, there is a limit to absurdity. For instance, I'm sure nobody could get away with publishing a study showing that ‘publish or perish’ discourages innovative research. That's just TOO fucking obvious.

A bit later: I thought this was taking it too far, but it's NEVER too far.
Now the Nobel Genocide Prize in Economics has been
given to something called Angus Deaton for:
"....his insight that economic averages such as measures of national income could be misleading, because they concealed important variations among individuals."
Since the WHOLE FUCKING POINT of an average is to conceal variations among individuals, this is a remarkable insight. Exceptional.
Couple minutes later: Not quite that bad. The NYTimes writer was a pure idiot but apparently Deaton is only an imbecile. His real theme...
...he argues that foreign aid from western government's has done more harm than good to developing nations, saying that it has helped prop up corrupt governments and rarely reaches the poor.
Obvious to anyone who observes facts. True and known for 80 years. (See Waugh's 1938 'Scoop'). Integral part of
Natural Law, and part of all written wisdom for 10000 years. But NOT a tautology. Modern governments and NGOs have turned this wisdom upside down, constantly giving more and more aid directly to corrupt dictators, then
pretending to wonder why it doesn't affect the poor.
