Authorities at Spokane's Chinese lantern festival have strengthened security measures in the wake of the Roseburg college shooting.

The massacre in Roseburg, Ore. took the lives of nine Umpqua Community College students on Thursday. Security in Spokane worked all day Friday to strengthen their presence.

From Friday on, all attendees will have their bags checked upon entry. Festival organizers hired a professional security firm to handle safety inside the event. Security guards with Riverfront Park have also been added to create a bigger general security force.
