Living by math isn't ALL bad
Purely a grumpy note to myself, recorded here in the vain hope of making an impression on my stupid brain-like substance!
Why can't I remember to start a number sequence properly?
When I'm developing programs or graphic stuff, I'm careful to keep old versions. I'll generally move forward one number per day, copying the existing file to a new number and recording any substantial change in my worklog file. This always runs into two digits and rarely three digits. For instance, the 'batch converter' for recent courseware project ended up as SVG-Convert-83.py after a year of gradual improvement.
Even though I've been doing things this way for 20 fucking years, I still start with a single digit, requiring a multiple rename to keep the files properly alphabetical when I "surprisingly" hit 10. This just happened with the new converter, which is starting from a different premise aimed at becoming a full-fledged authoring system. I reached New-Pageformer-9.py and realized
yet fucking again that I needed to go back and rename everything to New-Pageformer-01 etc.
Roof! Oh Roof! 0Roof!
