"Retreating from the world"
BBC is interviewing some Labor MP who favors bombing countries that didn't attack Britain. MP says that the alternative to bombing countries that didn't attack you is "retreating from the world."
Think about this. Take it down to an individual level.
By this standard everyone has exactly two choices in life.
(1) Kill people randomly.
(2) Be a hermit.

Both of these are likely to get you in trouble. Killing people randomly will get you arrested and jailed, unless of course you are a Person of Colour or a Person of Gender, in which case your Transgressive Nonmimetic Postcolonializationisms will be celebrated and rewarded. Being quiet and restrained will be considered Potential Terrorist Behavior and will bring close surveillance, even if you're A Member Of A Protected Class.
We expect people to avoid those two extremes. You shall Watch The Correct TV Programs and Robustly Debate The Issues Covered In The Correct TV Programs, which of course means quoting Correct Lines verbatim without omitting one semicolon. You are required to Root For The Correct Sport Teams, except of course Sport Teams With Offensive First Nations Peoples Names, unless of course the Sport Team has a First Nations Peoples Name full of Qs and Xs and apostrophes like Kwayhquitlam or Q'emiln. You shall Root For Such Teams With Special Enthusiasm, being careful of course to avoid all actual words and noises and gestures because any actual word or noise or gesture may of course turn out to be Offensive and Racist and Sexist and Homophobic and Halliburton and Koch.
