No, it's not theology
Believers are doing a shitty job of defending religion. I've been noticing this for a while, but for some reason it slapped me in the face when reading this little passage on Halal and Haram, in connection with previous entry on Ebola.
The author of that piece, while quoting rules that are obviously scientific, obviously based on long factual observation of diseases and their causes, still backs off into an apologetic abstract attitude:
The human mind however, due to it being very limited and restricted, may not be able to understand the logic behind every ruling. It may not be able to comprehend properly why a particular ruling is given, but Allah Most High- the Merciful and All-Knowing- is the best to decide what is beneficial and harmful for us, for He is the one who created us.We may not understand? Wrong. Ebola and trichinosis and a thousand other diseases force us to understand. No mystery at all. Just medical science. Christians stupidly abandoned this part of the Old Testament public-health rules, stupidly abandoned the Sabbath, but did keep a few of the rules on family and marriage. The few remaining actual Christians are atrociously weak and abstract and theological when defending those rules against Satan's total massive government-enforced attack**. Those old rules may be what God wants; I don't know because I don't have any connection to God. Much more concretely, those rules are what CIVILIZATION wants, as determined by millions of experiments. You don't need to invoke God in either of these matters. These are PURE HARD EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE IN THE STRICTEST SENSE. **Footnote: I was going to write 'frontal attack' but that would be an imprecise metaphor.
