Nature does 90s
Why is Danbo delighted with these critters?
These primitive critters were first gathered on the seafloor in 1986, and have
just now been closely examined and named Dendrogramma. They may be related to jellyfish or comb jellies, but the differences apparently outweigh the similarities. They could be a stage in the complex life cycle of some marine invertebrate; perhaps a stage that forms only in rare circumstances?
Here's why Danbo loves them:
Square joints! Nature simply doesn't do 90s. Nature does lots of 30s and 60s, Y-joints and triangles and hexagons and circles. The innards of this critter are
built with T-joints and right angles. Might be the only thing in Nature that is built like Danbo. She finds this highly reassuring.
