I love it.
Those barriers around the White House, and similar barriers around most Fed courthouses and office buildings, were built in the '90s to guard against alleged White Supremacists. Since then the barriers have been reinforced every time some white dude got uppity and dared to open his white mouth.

And now the barriers have finally served their purpose! Yes, one of those evil white southern Christian Klansmen finally tried to get at the African-American Living Saint President, Our Most Holy And Angelic Lord And Saviour Amen! And the barriers stopped him!

Oops? You say it wasn't a Klansman after all? Not even a white dude? Nooooooooooooooooo! I can't believe it! I won't believe it! You say it was a crazy black woman who thought Obama was stalking her with microwaves? Nooooooooo! That's impossible. Unthinkable. Unfathomable. Does not exist. Rectify! Rectify! Rectify! Memory Hole!

Oh well. Doesn't matter. We'll still go on spending billions to rebuild and reinforce the barriers every time some uppity white dude opens his mouth.

We should stop worrying about "terrorists" of all colors and varieties. They are not the big problem. Most likely they are all failed stings anyway. We should stop worrying about guns. They are not the big problem. The big problem is schizophrenics. Before the 1970s we handled them properly. We had involuntary commitment, we didn't toss them in ordinary jails, and we didn't toss them on the streets. We had asylums that focused on useful work instead of drugs and TV. Sun, soil, hands, completion, competence. During the 1970s both political "sides" conspired (as always) to move schizies out of those generally benign and curative conditions. Now everyone is vulnerable. The schizies are vulnerable to poverty, starvation and ordinary crime, and normal people are vulnerable to the huge crimes that a smart schizy can commit. Both political "sides" prefer it this way, because maximum vulnerability maximizes their power and profit.
