A reminder of pre-Soviet days
Public radio Marketplace ran a
feature yesterday which
almost started to put the current heat wave into perspective against a 1995 Chicago heat wave, but reliably and predictably steered right back into the Carbon Cult ratshit.
Gardner: You mentioned earlier that we are more aware of climate change now, but I noticed a lot of reporters, they refrain from making a connection between these individual heat events or weather related events and climate change. Are they just being cautions, are they accurate, are they doing a public a disservice?
Klinenberg: It's impossible to say that any one given heat event is due to climate change. But what the most sophisticated climate studies are showing is that we are seeing far more cases like this, and we're going to have to find a way to change things because it's just too much for us to bear.
Needless to say, this year is not the worst heat wave by any stretch of the imagination. You can find lots of longer and worse ones, mainly before ordinary carbon dioxide was
mysteriously split into two opposite compounds: Evil Western KKKarbon, instantly poisonous to anyone who breathes it; and Magical Chinese Healing Carbon, which magically counteracts the wicked effects of Evil Western KKKarbon.
Just for fun I decided to check 1887. I knew there was a serious blizzard in '87, so it was likely to be another of these stuck-jet-stream years, which meant there would also be heat waves. 1887 was also before internal combustion and (just) before electric power systems, so there were no sources of Evil Western KKKarbon. Therefore, according to All Reputable Scientists, heat waves were impossible in 1887.
Sure enough, there was a heat wave. Found a
report, oddly enough, in the July 30,
1933 edition of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. They were looking back at 1887 to put the '33 drought in perspective!
Note especially that the heat wave was accompanied by a tornado-strength straight wind. Sound familiar?
The tone is lively and objective. No false theories, no invocation of fashionable toxic ratshit to maximize the profit of speculators. Just the facts, told in dramatic language: "A terrible gust of wind dashed upon the town with fury." Who needs TV when you know how to use words?Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could bring back ACTUAL JOURNALISM?
